Negotiating rent

Last time I checked Winchester wasn't in London :)
It's generally regarded as a fairly expensive place to live however and certainly last time I looked (admittedly a year or two back) rents of £1k+ weren't that uncommon.

My mistake. For some reason I had it in my head that he lived in GL. I was miles off! :p

How is the rental market at the minute? Is there much room for negotiation? What sort of offer should I put in to start the bargaining and is there a certain way I should go about it?

Thanks :)

I'm no longer living in Winchester but if it's anything like Docklands you'll be laughing. The last two places I've looked at were asking £1200 a month and were happy to accept £1000, I'd didn't take mind as I figured I'd just pay the extra and get something even nicer!

The way I do my bargaining is to start lower than I what I'm after and work up from there. Usually the letting agency has an idea what the owner will accept too...

Winchester isn't expensive if you know where to look.

If you look at student places, they are dirt cheap and can be literally "dirt".

Scuzi, what's the location/class of the area you'll be moving to. Your existing one appears to be very hard to fault in that sense.

IIRC, you posted photos of your Winchester pad. It was stunning.
TTIUWP :D
Yeah it is nice and it's in what I suppose you could call a "prestigious" area but it's far too small for the price I'm paying and most of my neighbours are stuck up ****ers who think I'm a drug dealer.

Location is a few miles outside town but still close enough that nights out and the sort won't be a problem. The location of my current place is awesome but what good is a location when your neighbours suck and it's costing a premium of about £3k a year. Besides, moving out of town will force me to cut down on drinking. The local is so handy that I spend about 4-5 nights a week in there:o
