Please remember that any mention of competitors, hinting at competitors or offering to provide details of competitors will result in an account suspension. The full rules can be found under the 'Terms and Rules' link in the bottom right corner of your screen. Just don't mention competitors in any way, shape or form and you'll be OK.

Nehelem, please clarify....

I could be wrong here but I get the impression Concorde_Rules likes SSDs.

just hope they are released in October.....and not delayed for months which sometimes happens with highly anticipated hardware releases
I think it'll be at least November before they are on the shelves. If you desperately want an upgrade then go for it now, waiting around with upgraditus always sucks.

64GB single SSD is the minimum for vista 64 with proggies install, no games though, and IMO it would make more of a difference than 1066HM ram over 800, or a 3GHZ C2D over a 3GHZ C2Q

shaffaaf27 and Concorde Rules

I take it with the kind of system I may spend my money on, the hard drive would let me down because of it not being the fastest performance?

Vista + HDs = SHUT UP, SHUT UP, SHUT UP, ARGHHHHH *runs around room screaming*

They are used for frickin' everything, MS don't like RAM, except for superfetch :p

I'm looking forward to Nehalem, but not for the i7 chips, but for the bargains to be had when everyone rushes to sell off their Core 2 Quads for cheap. Should be some corking deals around. My 3ghz E2180 should last just fine till then. A ~£100 12MB cache quad from the MM or that auction site would be fantastic and I wouldn't be surprised to see it happen. Here's hoping anyway.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. All the improvements nehalem brings don't look geared towards gaming performance so I don't think I'll need it for a while.

It's more the new socket I'm waiting for, rather than the Nehalem chips specifically. I plan on upgrading a bit more gradually after my next build, rather than just replacing everything ouright, and if I get an LGA775 board there won't be a lot out there that'll fit when I come to get a new chip.

On the plus side, I can't see Intel selling a whole lot to OEMs (given the price) so Retail not getting any of the quota shouldn't be a big issue :)

The bottom model is at a very attractive price... the only off putting factors are the price of an X58 mobo and a big chunk of DDR3.

Energy conserving. The unused cores switch off when not in use. Elimination of the FBS. Direct access to the memory!

so far there is a lot of negative comments in this thread and others on the forum about Nehelem not been much good for gaming - The way I see it, its not like when Intel came out with the Pentium 4, and I can still remember when they came out, then and AMD released there Athlon 64, and all over the internet and purchasing in the shops, all people were saying, if you want a gaming CPU then stay away from Intel, Pentium 4. It may not be a big step like the Pentium 4 to Core 2 concerning games performance, and may not bring at the moment much better gaming performance compared to older Core 2 Penryns but I wouldn`t say the Nehelem is that bad a CPU for gaming, and Intel may achelly improve it later on for this.
