Neighbour issues

...We've all had them!

Anytime I've had them in the past, I've dealt with it at their door step, either a stern or polite word does the trick depending on the circumstances but strange one this time..

Moved into a semi-detached property about 2 months ago, area is quiet, young and old families, neighbours around are nice but the house directly through the wall has been lying empty. I was washing my car on the drive a couple of weeks ago when the owner shows up and chats away, nice chap, lives somewhere else but doesn't know what to do with it so occasionally lets family live there...

As of earlier in the week, what we've ended up with is a couple of chavvy teenagers living next door, presumably rent free as only 1 of them does an odd shift here and there(i have a home office so get to be nosey), the owner has been around a couple of times and I get the impression they are again, family.

Last night was brutal, 4 cars worth of chavs showed up for a party, shouting, swearing and screaming between the house and the garden - all careless teenagers. Phoned the council who said they'd send a car out to measure the noise but wether they showed up or not, I don't know. Neighbour at the back of the house shouted me over this morning and complained also, old couple who didn't get to sleep until 4...

I want to nip this in the bud before it goes on - police won't care, council will only come into the property and measure the noise levels. Going to have a word with the landlord the next time I see him but if they are family, I won't put my property/cars/dogs at risk.

What would you do? Other than **** through the letter box? :p I'm not sure how it works but can I shop the owner for letting them live there undeclared?
 
Are you upset over one party? Do you think maybe it was just a housewarming and you are jumping the gun a bit?
 
Go and talk to them. They might be nice enough who just don't know better or it's an infrequent thing. Also, always get hold of a landlord neighbour's number at the first opportunity.

Either way pop round and ask them if they're going to have a party again to please be considerate to their neighbours. If they ignore you, smash their house down.

I'd have a polite word with the owner next time you see them as well.
 
From experience anyone disrespectful of others is also disrespectful of other peoples property, the owner should be told as they may be on a trial period.

Strike up a conversation with them and randomly mention that they still haven't found the body of the last noisy neighbour from the area.
 
I'd go round and be nice, until the time comes to stop being nice. Might be a one off party, but you need to know if it's going to be a regular thing, which I hate to say with a couple of teenagers there, it could easily be.
Talk to them first, if they tell you to '**** off' then talk to the landlord.

A housewarming party is fine but the same cars/people have shown up every night this week(just not all together) for a noisy few hours. On a Thursday night with that level of noise, swearing, screaming, throwing bottles outside the house and in the garden - all would be described as anti-social if it was done on the streets.

Never judge a book and all that but on first impressions(i've spoken to them) they strike me as the types who go hard on the booze and don't care about anything. If family with the landlord, he's probably doing them a favour without thinking of the consequences. By the sounds of it, there's a few broken furniture pieces after last night.

Given the age of them, a lot of the friends won't have rentals of their own so a cheap night out will be that property - which is what I want to avoid.
 
Would it be an idea to try and catch the guy who actually owns the house to make him aware? Just as a concerned neighbour considering you thought there was damage in the house itself?
 
even a one off party, you have the politeness to see the neighbors first to explain it might be a bit wild...

OR you go the following day with a big smile and a box of chocs to apologize.
 
Make an audio copy of the noise from the entire party the next time, place some massive speakers against the wall joining their house and play back the audio on repeat at max volume 5 minutes after their house goes quiet. Then go on holiday for a week.

Hehe I was going to suggest a variation of that!

Download the "Drum and Bass Best Off", put your speakers facing the wall, and turn it on at max volume...
... but wait until it's 6am, so they had an hour of bad sleep first.

Then go do some gardening. If asked by red-eyed, tell them you can't hear it properly while you're in the garden :-)
