Hi Chaps,

My neighbour scraped my car while reversing out of his driveway yesterday causing some damage to rear OS bumper including deep scratches, chips of paint off and a crease in the bumper. He has ofcourse assumed full responsibility.

I have a 67 plate BMW 1 Series Shadow Etd in Estoril blue.

Incident has been reported to my insurer who have marked my policy as 'notification pending' as it looks like my neighbour's insurer (company car) is dealing as he had reported it to his company during the day.

Shouldn't my insurer be making advances towards the neighbours insurer and not wait for the neighbour's insurer to deal?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

It should all be done through your neighbour's insurer, as they are claiming through their insurance and not yours.

The status is notification pending because it's precisely that. Your insurance company is waiting to hesr from theirs that they've had a claim.
Also I'm glad you told us what car it was. Highly relevant to the point at hand.

More relevant than your need to point it out.

Presumably if it was an old banger, then there would have been no need to get insurers involved.

And we needed to know the colour.

But seriously, leave it the insurance company much less stressful. Try not to get stressed, it will always take longer than you think or want.
Andi.

Precisely. But we already know the insurers are involved ergo isn't a shed and irrelevant since once they're involved there's already a notification.

Only things I'd add are
1. Deal with their insurer directly, they will be more than happy to do this as it lets them control costs.
2. It's a nearly new car, so I'd be demanding it goes to a BMW body shop for repairs, don't let them fob you off with their "approved repairer" as you're entitled to have it done wherever you choose.

Thanks for this - sound advice.

1. I do have the reference for the insurer that is handling it from my neighbours side so I will chase up with them.
2. I will be demanding it is taken to a BMW body shop for sure.

not necessarily

mine didn't when a van pulled out in front of me and me hitting it, was 100% his fault

We will see...

My parents had a similar non-fault claim for more or less the same amount of damage on the rear bumper of their car and it didn't affect their premium despite the rear bumper being entirely replaced, resprayed and new ceramic coating applied. My Parents insurer dealt with everything including chasing the 3rd Parties insurer for the money which is why my OP mentioned if I should be chasing my own insurer.

I will give the 3rd Party insurer a call with the references tonight and see what they are doing about it as my insurer have stated 3rd Party seem to be dealing.
