Just purchased my first SATA drive a 250Gb WD SATA2 drive, installed it fine, windows picks up the drive fine, i partitioned it all ok but when ever i try "write" onto the drive the system locks up.

I've tried everything i can think of but it still refuses to format. Tried the WD diagnostic tools and they all report the drive as working fine.

Anyone else had problems with SATA on the K8N Neo2 Plat and have a possible solution to it.

Set the jumper to SATA1 although that shouldnt cause a problem anyway. Windows detects the drives and partitions (3 partitions drive G-I) but refuses to let me format them.

Tried Partition Magic 8 and the windows xp installation CD all give me errors when i tried to format them.

WD diagnostic tool reports the drive as 100% fine which is what confuses me.

Seems to be something on the nforce3 board that wont allow me to write to the drive which is why its locking up when i try format.

if the partition or any drive as any errors on it then you cant format the drive, so you need to get rid of the errors, right click on the drive properties> tools> error-checking tick both of the options to fix any think it finds. after its finished, try to format the drive

think partition magic lets you fix any errors to.
