Anyone heard about this before? First I've heard of this "subgenre" and it appears quite appealing initially, although I have only had a very small exposure to it at the moment.

I initially heard about it through this BBC News article, then did a bit of reading on wiki and it looks to have been around for quite some time.

I personally hate what hip-hop/rap has become, my preferences are towards artists such as The Roots, Jurassic 5, Mos Def, Roots Manuva, Common... the type of artists who keep to the old school hip-hop "flavour" without coming across as idiotic, ignorant boasters.

Good lyrics is what defines a good artist, not solely but in conjunction with having a good "flow". Now these "nerdcore" artists appear to have pretty decent lyrics but the "flow" isn't there to entice me enough to want to buy an album for instance, but I'm sure that will develop over time. It may have already as it appears to have been around a while which is why I would like to know if anyone is familiar with this new subgenre and would like to suggest some artists to listen to.

EDIT: I just realised I posted this in GD instead of Music :( Any mod care to move?

There's a group called Optimus Rhyme who are apparently near the top of the genre, I vaguely remember seeing this video before, most probably in the youtube thread:

Weird Al isn't Nerdcore, as much as I love him. I see Chiptune's as real nerdcore, not really bad hip hop, that mentions different programming languages. But the build and and composition of chip tunes is real Nerdcore IMO. Although, I see myself in a minority here.

That dude sucks!!!

I would rather hear crap like tinchy stryder or that chipmunk **** than nerd man.

I hated listening to this, but I love that it exists! :p

If I liked any kind of hip-hop this would be the kind I liked. But I don't. In case anyone didn't follow.

Why aren't there any nerdcore rock/metal bands instead? Oh wait, yeah, Blind Guardian! :D

I believe mc frontalot is quite big on the nerdcore scene also, he's quite funny. Though not something I'd put in my collection.
