I have to say, my parents wouldn't allow me to have 'toy guns', as with a few of my friends. I'm better off for it.
Hehe, if you had toy guns as a kid you would have turned out just the same, have more faith in yourself man. Seriously my dad had loads of toy guns and so did I. Never had any urge to own a real one or shoot anyone in real life.
We were playing soldiers or cowboys or whatever, exploring ideas and playing roles. It is in our genes to explore aggression and warlike behavior, the fact you can do this in a controlled environment as a child means you get a much greater understanding of it.
The only kid I knew growing up not allowed guns and many other toys because his parents were evangelical Christians went off the rails when he hit 16 and got some freedom.
Nerf guns are brilliant fun...
