Nespresso

I have a Nespresso machine that I got for free, and for the price it's fantastic :D

My girlfriends parents had one and it broke so they said I could have it (wouldn't froth milk any more) and bought a new one. I fixed it up and now it runs flawlessly.

The coffee tastes good (bear in mind that there are many different blends available (average cost is around 30p per cup).
 
I tried a Nespresso machine recently when a holiday apartment had one.

My parents also own a Tassimo machine (their second, as the first one, by a different manufacturer stopped working.


I would say that the Nespresso probably tasted a bit better, however it was not so good because it only makes espresso. You then have to boil water separately to make a more normal coffee. It looks like some of the more expensive machines though will allow you to do hot water and milk also.

The Tassimo system is good because you can have all kinds of different drinks, such as hot chocolate, herbal teas and they also sell milk pods for doing things like cappuccinos.

As a coffee lover, I'd probably choose the Nespresso, but to get the best use of it, you want a more expensive one... in which case, you are probably a coffee lover and may be better with a normal machine.

I could be wrong here as i havent yet tried them myself, but are the "Lungo" nespresso coffees not larger like an americano? Thats the impression i get but mine will mainly be used for the espresso side of things

Lungo is for larger cups, but theres a lot less choice in Lungo.

Nespresso seem to release many different variants of their espresso from different regions etc, so theres certainly more variety than the other pod machines. However beans will always win in the variety stakes, im just simply pointing out that Nespresso doesnt limit you to "Coffee Strength 4" pods.

Nespresso or ANY PODs machines has as much choice as you get in Instant really. It's not about Nespresso having some choice, it is you are limited to what you are given. Full Stop.

If you think of coffee like wine, like different estates from different region, then you would understand me more. It is not just Arabica coffee or not, it is more refined than that.
 
Got one a few years ago along with the nespresso frother and it's great peice of kit. Simple to use, no mess and good range of different pods and they always seem to developing some new ones.

They have some nice accessories aswell.

Yes Lungo coffee is longer - there's around three varieties of Lungo in the Nespresso range. The newer Nespresso machines have two buttons when making an espresso, one is just for the normal amount and the second is for the Lungo.

The older ones you just leave the water running abit longer.

Of-course, however in relative terms you get more choice with Nespresso than the other pod based machines. For instance the illy coffee machines you only get a choice of three pods: Dark roasted, decaff and ESE (or something). The nespresso has over times the variety.

Sure they may not make it 20 years, guess we will wait and see, but my 11300 came with a 3 year guarantee which is good in my books :)

Indeed, they've not been around for long enough to say with any certainty how well they are made. However considering that Nespresso are opening a new 'Nespresso Boutique' in London, it's fair to presume that they are not going to disappear anytime soon.
 
I've just got a Tassimo T65 for Xmas from the parents, and it's a fantastic thing. Very impressed with it so far, my only real complaint would be that the amounts you get sometimes aren't really all that much, but then I think using some smaller mugs would probably make it look a bit less pathetic, and I imagine many of the varieties wouldn't be served in massive mugs anyway.

Very impressed with the variety of discs available both in-store and on their website, and they give you £20 credit to spend on the site which is pretty good considering the machine was £99. Not too badly priced either, would be expensive to use regularly but as a 'treat' now and then it's very good and seems very low maintenance.

Was considering a Senseo at first and I also looked at the Dolce Gusto, but the Tassimo had the most appealing range of drinks by far.
 
Our lab has one. The coffee, well, it is drinkable and not as bad as you would imagine. Some of them are quite drinkable. But yeah, the ease of use and cleanliness is second to none.

I almost use it like a medicine dispenser - pop i a capsule, down an espresso, back to work.

Essentially the exact same thing but without the milk frother (which you can buy seperately if you later wish to have it anyway).

I'd also suggest keeping an eye out on Gumtree (possibly even auctions). As these are almost marmite gifts; it would appear there are not many people that enjoy coffee enough to warrent the cost of a machine whilst others that do simply would rather the "real thing".

I found the model you linked to in Titanium on Gumtree and managed to grab it for £100. It was brand new and never even removed from the box; it was simply an unwanted wedding gift. (This was not the only one I'd seen either, many had been snatched up before I got in touch, however). Worth a try, anyway!
