Hey all,
I’m hoping to install the Nest Thermostat for our combi boiler tomorrow and need a bit of advice…
I’m confident with the home link install to the combi boiler, it’s just what I’m going to do about the Nest Thermostat.
The combi boiler is an Ideal Logic 30 and it uses a wireless stat (Ideal PRT3). The house has a Honeywell T40 stat on the wall that I assume was in use before they installed the wireless receiver.
The thermostat is wired as below:
And there is a connection block just under the boiler that I am assuming are the wires that go to this stat:
Questions:
1. The Nest requires just two cables connecting to the home link - no 240V. When I put my voltage detector on the cables at the stat or at the connection block it glows as if it’s powered, but when I try my multimeter on it I get no voltage…
In a perfect world, I could just use the red and yellow cable and connect one end to home link and the other to the Nest, but I am concerned my voltage stick is picking up power - should I be concerned?
2. Is there any way I can determine that the cables coming from the stat and the cables coming into the connection block are connected? They are in different rooms across the house.
3. If these cables to the T40 have 240V running through them, what is my alternative? I really want the Nest wall mounted and want to avoid buying a stand.
Thanks in advance for any help
