Net spend?

All the inflated prices, both new and used got me thinking. How much are new GPU's actually costing when factoring in the second hand prices that old cards are being sold for?
For me my new GPU,a Sapphire Nitro+ 6800 cost £730. I sold my Sapphire Nitro+ for£350 on Facebook so no charges. That means my new card cost me NET. £375. Not so bad in the overall scheme of things.
What was your NET cost?

for people that own cards that still are competitive, I expect the net spend is at worst no worse than usual and in a fair few cases much better.

As an example my net cost of going from a 1070 to 1080ti was about £250.
My net cost from 1080ti to 3080 was about £300

The former was a inter generation jump with no new features, the latter was 2 generation jump with new features.

If I sold on ebay the net cost I think would have been under £200.

3090FE £1399 - £500 1080Ti on EB - £500 Mining (2 months) = £399

2 More months and and I become net positive :D

However since I bought a 3090FE and my only monitor is a puny 1440p I went and bought a Samsung G9 which cost £989 to justify the 3090FE. I would have stayed with my 1440p if I can get my hands on a 3080 for less than £800. I guess my net is negative £1299

If there were slightly more 3080s available at near the price they should be, I'd be selling on and upgrading. The cost would be more than acceptable. But selling this card for 600 quid and then paying 1200 quid for its replacement isn't wise in my view. I'm patient, it's not like I can't game the way I like to with this set up. I like the idea of ray tracing though, although the 2080 was bought for its rasterisation performance. Given I've been surprised at how much ray tracing I can use in Cyberpunk and WDL with the 2080 by tweaking other stuff, a 3080 would be a nice upgrade on that.

Either way, even when 30xx series cards become available, there'll still be a good second hand market to get some cash back.

Or build a mini ITX rig with the 2080 and 3700x after I've upgraded to a 5900-5950x..

3090FE = £1399 - 3080FE (no intention of selling on had ordered Waterblock, but offered dumb money for it) + codes brought price down to £825. Sold off 1080Ti and block (£350 after shipping), price down to £475. Few months of mining here and there (no intention of mining either but price is nuts not too) so sitting at positive £50. Have ordered the EK block however as its main purpose is to go into the living room as a HTPC, so that with fees will mean upgrade in all has cost me about £250 right now. So a bit of mining here and there on down time and be net positive by the time the block likely arrives.

I will probably not sell my existing card. I have more than one PC so I will probably upgrade them as well.

6800XT Nitro cost me £859, sold my Vega 64 for £450, so £409, pretty pleased with that.

If my Vega wasn't worth that I wouldn't have even entertained the upgrade, but the way I looked at it, if I could have got the 6800 XT for £650, then my Vega would probably have only been worth at best £250 (as it had been up till recently), same difference.
