why don't you move the Windows Taskbar to the side of the screen?

1024 x 600 is perfect for browsing, but if I start losing horizontal pixels I'll have to start doing a lot more horizontal scrolling.

Or autohide?

Autohide gets on my nerves. If I could work out a way of having firefox always on top of it until I hover over it that would be great, but I don't want it auto popping up and down.

i don't know - i always prioritize vertical pixels over horizontal. ever tried using a 16:10 monitor in portrait mode? it's epic.

The difference on a netbook screen is that I already have to do the vertical scrolling. If I drop horizontal pixels to accommodate having the task bar on the side then I'm guaranteeing I'll have to do horizontal scrolling as well on the majority of sites.
