Not too sure which part of the forums to post this, so if it needs moving mods please do.

I've got an Acer Aspire One D250 netbook. Whatever speakers are built in seem to work fine. I've also got an LG portable DVD/CD writer. One of the bits of software that came free with it is Cyberlink PowerDVD 8.

I've just tried playing a DVD with it, and whilst the video plays fine I get no audio. I've tried tinkering with the settings in PowerDVD but nothing I do changes it. On XP, all the volume settings are set to the top. Audio comes out fine when I fire up youtube, but nothing from the DVD.

Any ideas?

Yep.

I did a quick search on download.com and downloaded the first reasonably highly rated DVD player I saw (KM Player.) Played the same DVD fine with sound. Must be some sort of issue with PowerDVD, so I'll uninstall it and stick with KM Player, does the job fine.

Reason i say that is i have the same drive as you and was unsure if you could play sound through it.

Thanks for the info anyway

Another thought can you not play it through WMP?

It didn't occur to me to try...I've not used WMP since the late 90's.

I don't know quite what the issue is with PowerDVD, but its a problem with that program - not the drive.
