I am looking to purchase a portable netbook/notebook that I can use on a daily basis at university. I will be installing a linux distribution to learn the ins and outs of the OS and it will also be used for programming ( I am doing a Comp Sci degree ).

I am clueless when it comes to portable hardware so any suggestions are appreciated.

Maximum budget of £400 however I would rather not spend this much :p

Thanks!

Theirs a HP Mini 311c in warranty going in the members market. 2GHZ/3GB ram etc. Would do what your want easy.

All netbooks have very similar hardware, if not the same. I'd go for something bigger maybe 13". I find you can't really do a lot on such small screens.
