only want to use it for playing mp3's and viewing youtube
will also want to use a program called guitar pro for viewing sheet music/tab

given that cheap laptops arent much more expensive than netbooks (from what little i've seen) and u get loads more memory/cpu/screen for your money is the only advantage of a netbook its hysical size ?

basically from what i know yes, the netbook is smaller, less powerful, cheaper to buy, but unless size is a major issue, i would say get a normal laptop. A laptop should last longer and will suit your needs better then a netbook

I'd go with a cheap laptop as you will have more screen real estate to view your sheet music and a laptop is more adaptable to run more demanding programs should you need to in the future then a netbook.

As mic551 said, if size isn't an issue then go for a cheap laptop.

Netbooks are very much a love/hate thing if you ask me. You need to try one before buying.

Having gone the netbook route (NC10 for a year) I think for what you want you'll be better getting a 'cheap laptop' just because it is on the whole more versatile; thats where I am going now having found the netbook just a little too underpowered for what I would like to able to do.

obviously if its screen size then go laptop but I find that my Asus 1005PE running windows 7 with 2gb of ram does everything for which I would use my laptop - and is wonderfully light and unobtrusive - I never use my laptop it's looking very forlorn and unloved

Get a Lappy as scrolling sideways on a Netbook screen makes baby jesus cry. :(
