Netduma R1 - Gaming Router

hmmmmmm - not sure how useful this will actually be in real life useage as most problems are due to ISP end, not the router itself.....

We'll see, I'm still skeptical about it, that's the reason I held off buying one last week.

Drift0r also said closing the search radius down still didn't seem to improve games that much.

AFAIK all this does is stop hosts being chosen that are far away, those people will probably still be in your game (French/Spanish/etc) so it will probably still result in crap games against foreign players.

If it stops them being host, that's a start for me!

£70 for a Routerboard 951, so you're paying £50 (and delivery) for their take on OpenWRT.

Good hardware mind, but would have to be a strong and solid feature set to justify the additional spend for me.

So just installed it for a friend, and it works a treat on call of duty. Can genuinely feel it, the hit markers etc. Game changing!

Hummm... It would be interesting to see if it changes the game over a decent usage period as it could easily be a case of wanting it to be better otherwise it's a waste of money. Placebo effect maybe?

I'm skeptical about this as well. Like anticonscience said above there's still nothing to stop people from other regions from joining your lobby. And then all you need is for your British host to leave and the game could pick a Spanish host.

Can't remember the last time I was connected to a laggy server - surely games/lobby browsers pick servers based on ping anyway?

As for anti-flood, most routers have enough options for QoS/App Prioritisation or even the brute force of Bandwidth limitation/allocation - there are more than enough proper ways to share bandwidth.

Then again I'm not a professional gamer - so his product clearly isn't aimed at me :)

Could be, but the anti-flood could also make a difference if there are lots of users on 1 connection. That said, they shouldn't spin it as some miraculous algorithm. They're siphoning off part of your bandwidth and dedicating it to gaming traffic.

Having used this now for over a week, I can hand on heart say it's improved my gaming 10 fold. Seeing who it tries to pick as host is fascinating, well to me it is anyways! It's hard to describe, but you can feel it. The hit-detection is how it should be and the lag is none.

Their support has been fantastic, as it didn't have PPPOE sign in, but they quickly patched this in order for me to use modem > Netduma.

It doesn't just work in CoD:AW but for Fifa etc, it works fantastic. Although when playing Fifa I have to expand the range obviously.

This has been the best gaming purchase I have made, along with my scuff controller!

belloni which console is this with? ps4 or xb?

did u have problems with fifa lag before?

maybe get this if it solves fifa lag :)

u on adsl or cable?

I play on the PS4. It's excellent with my friends, as they benefit from it also. First thing they said, was about hit detection and the way it plays. No longer do people get to turn on you after 10+ bullets into their back!

Spluff - The occasional lag on Fifa in head to head, but now I don't get that, the games selections are close, it's brilliant. Obviously if you have it on, for example a 1,000KM range from you, it takes a couple seconds more to find a game, but i'm ok with that!

Anti - You get a few foreign players, but it's all about the host for me and ping. Which has been significantly reduced. My K/D has shot up, e.g went 52/13 last night and my friend got 44/15 in the same game.

Also, the interface is so user friendly, simply drag the distance you want to set the radius of gamers. Everything else, is just well done.

Interesting! I see the shop opens again at 8pm tonight.....I'll have to try and resist.

I did think you would obviously still get foreign players, and I was concerned they would still be as difficult to get the jump on and assumed they would still have an advantage over you.

Have you done a before/after (and by after I mean just widening the search area to Europe) to see how often a foreign host would be selected vs a UK (I assume you have set it to UK hosts only?) host?

Honestly, this is by far the best gaming gear i've bought in a long while. I had the Asus rt56u before hand.

They definitely don't have the advantage anymore! The hit detection is beautiful!

I'm based in the south-east, so my radius currently is at 450KM, so that reaches just to a bit of France (explains why I get the odd foreigner). Reason I have it like this, is i'm slowly decreasing it every few days to a smaller radius, to see how long it takes to find a game based on this.

It may seem silly, but i enjoy connecting to a game and seeing it on the interface, block hosts from France/Germany and Italy!

I'd have a lot of joy in seeing those hosts being blocked lol.

Might just order one for giggles to see if it does make a difference for me, I can always sell it if needed.
