Netflix increasing prices again

is it our dodgy uncle dave

Sadly ours is called Brian.

The first time it happened we had to message round everyone clarifying it wasn't us. He also managed to subscribe to a gay porn channel free trial through it once. Clearly in the hope of some girl on girl action.
Good to know he's still got it at 77!

haha sounds like a star :)

Or just screw yourself like us, pay for both and then have everyone else use your account...

We also have a particularly dodgy Unkle who likes to watch films of a certain "nature" on our Amazon Prime and it's always obvious because as soon as you log in they're all the first thing you see under "More like you've watched" :(

Yeah my wife foots the bill for four families.

My Netflix is included in my Sky package. But whilst I’m not seeing this increase in cost for Netflix, I am paying a kidney or two for Sky…

I never understand why in today’s ‘broad’ internet world one would go looking for material of dubious nature on Netflix/Amazon.

Old people is about the only explanation i can offer. He doesn't have a pc/smart phone and so this is his only option.

Along with account sharing being tightened and also rumours of ads being introduced in the future…… the share price did take big hit this week though

The price increase doesn't bother me, but if ads are introduced that will be it. The whole point of paying for subscriptions is so the content doesn't have to be funded by ads. Subtle product placement doesn't bother me, and I feel the UK is too strict in that regard.

Sounds like they are bringing in a cheaper tier that has ads so you will still have no ad option, what that option will actually cost will be another story though.......

Get Netflix through Sky so it's cheaper and I also get Disney+ via my O2 contract so it's cheaper but yeah the way that the prices are rising it's going to soon be one or the other, I already cut out Sky Sports and Movies so the subscription services are the next to go.

Not worth a new thread, but I just heard on the radio Netflix are introducing ads.

Quick search:

Netflix plans on introducing an ad-supported subscription tier for customers who would be willing to pay a lower monthly price at the expense of ad-free viewing. This tier will be entirely optional, and ads won’t start appearing on existing subscribers' Netflix accounts.

We’ll say that again: ads won’t start appearing on existing subscribers' Netflix accounts.

Good move if it means more revenue for them and consequently better shows, maybe. Have to wait to see what the price plans are.

Only makes sense if the ads are a the beginning of an episode or when idle, not breaking up and episode for ad breaks.

I remember trying to watch a The Booth at the End on Hulu back in 2011. It's only 20min epodes yet they managed 4 ad breaks. It was unwatchable.

We’ve got the top tier one but 3 of us in our household use it along with my sister and brother in a different household, along with my sisters mate lol in another household.

If they lock it down I can’t see us renewing given the price of other services.

It’s a slippery slope let be honest. They will keep increasing the prices of the non ad tiers and probably start trying to create more packs with a combination of fee and ads.

Their business model is fundamentally flawed. Growth isn’t forever. They are churning out so much **** as well.

Wonder if you can get around it with a htpc/addblocker etc.

I know for ITV/channel 4 etc my setup blocks all the adds on that.

Pretty obvious to me that this is the way it will go. If you don't want ads, you'll just have to pay ever increasing prices.

I had it through Sky but cancelled when my Sky contract ended.

Few years ago I just paid for it and watched what I wanted when I wanted, I'll now be dipping in a month at a time so Netflix will get far less money from me as a result.

Over the last two years they've re-encoded and reduced the quality of their content, increased their prices, in a far more competitive space, and now they're losing customers as a result. Increasing prices and sacking staff, to cover the lost revenue from customers leaving, seems to be their business model which never ends well.

That's a thing!?

Well the ads aren't supposed to be coming for a while, and further price increases will only harm them more in the current climate, which likely isn't going to miraculously change soon.

Plenty of competition out there, some of which is free.
