Netflix on Linux?

I was wondering if this was natively possible yet? I've seen a hack which combines Silverlit and WINE into an application but as the laptop isn't that powerful to begin with, it's going to add overhead and reduce performance of it.

I think your stuck with running it via some sort of emulator like wine etc at the moment.

Nixie on good old YouTube seems to punch out the 2 painless ways of getting it going

Run the android app, in the android emulator? Might be a bit OTT though!

I still can't get myself to part with heaps of cash for a non upgradedable pile of mediocre hardware, in a shine(y) white case, running a <cough> dark side OS

Not natively possible, and likely never will be. But that desktop app Essexraptor mentioned works. It doesn't work perfectly, but it works. Non-HD streaming is smooth for me, sometimes your cursor doesn't show up so you have to move around until you find the 'pause' or 'full screen' button, and sometimes when you play you just get a black screen with sound. If this is the case you just resize (maximise) the window and it comes back.

On the plus side, you can install hola in this.

Silverlight supports OSX.

It might sound extreme but you could always run a small windows virtual machine in seamless mode?

I think he's worried about resources on a laptop. No doubt, running a virtual instance would work. But it may end up as weak as some sort of emulation with wine/silverlight... dependent on available cores/RAM etc

Hasn't it recently been announced that Netflix will be moving to HTML5 and dropping Silverlight?

They won't until DRM support is in HTML5, the eff (and others) are trying to stop DRM hooks being added to it which would allow closed source DRM plugins which would likely shut out some users.
