Netflix to cut streaming quality in Europe for 30 days

Meh, I can't really notice the difference between 720p and 1080p anyway.

I have a 65" OLED and a 4k Netflix subscription

If you press the 'info' button, you can see in real time as it changes streams from 480 to 720 to 1080 and then 2160

The distance I am from the screen, I only notice minor differences between 720p and 1080p and almost no difference between 1080p and 4k.

Hopefully we'll still get HDR though as that is noticeable.

Aahh... So thats the reason why Castlevania looked lower quality compared to last week!

I can see why they are doing it but come on Netflix...give at least the top tier payers a months discount! Not as if you don't have the money to do so! :D

Hmm...which is worse?

1) Person A is facing a couple of months with no money and no way to pay the rent or the bills or buy food.
2) Person B is facing a couple of months with very good picture quality on Netflix instead of excellent picture quality.

I can't quite decide who's worse off. A major philosophical problem to ponder.

That's more reasonable - charge them the standard rate for the streaming quality they'll be getting.

you should have gone to your local newsagents early and panic bought all their porn rags.

I was too busy panic buying real food earlier today!

Got home and had a good old work from home, not going to starve for another day relief ****. Didn't think I'd need even more material and potential offline material to last me another few days.

I thought internet streaming was going to be infinite and bountiful forever.

Might have to dig out my old divx hdd archive from back in the day. Maybe I've got a few old Channel 5 friday night soft core flicks saved somewhere in case the naughty sites get restricted to 240p or start getting pixelated like the Japanese stuff.

pretty much this. ISP's can cope with people streaming. it's not as if it's the only media is netflix. people will be using youtube, amazon prime, etc.

i haven't seen them come out and say they are downgrading their quality.

Maybe we should start a gofundme for person B? :D

Person A didn't plan well.
Person B did.

Person B is a smart cookie. We need more person B's. We need fewer person A's. Alternatively person A could eat person B.

Probably sensible, but for those of us on 4K bandwidth tiers would be fair for them to extend subscription times a bit to make up for it maybe.

Ah well, I hardly watch it much, just the occasional thing on there I want to see.

Yeah but they could also be testing the waters for something else. Slowly reducing the quality without the monthly sub to reflect the change and see how many people complain.

This may be a one off but we don't want to give them a free pass all the time to think it's ok while they charge the same.
