I have a Netgear DG834GT wireless router and it is directly connected into my desktop computer and is working perfectly fine.

My brother sits at the top of the house and uses a WG111T wireless USB adaptor to connect. However, he recently formatted his computer so i installed the relative software to help him reconnect.

I believe i have configured it correctly in the router and on his computer using the SSID, WEP and passphrase. His computer even recognises the connection and indicates that its connected.

However, i can't get a connection to the web using internet explorer and i can't connect to the router using the default 192.168.0.1 from his machine.

One thing that i have noticed is that he isn't listed under the attached devices in the router!!!

Does anyone have any ideas on whats wrong?

Thanks

Ditch the Netgear software for the WG111T and use Windows' inbuilt wireless tool, it's far better. Also, do not use WEP as it is insecure. Use WPA as it is more secure. I used to have a DG834GT and WG111T combo and WPA never gave me any hassles so there's no real reason not to use it ... unless there's other devices on the network that don't support WPA I guess.

Thanks for the reply but i still can't get connected.

Whenever i try to repair the connection it says that it has limited or no connectivity with a pad lock beside the network icon.

During the repair process it fails because it says that renewing your IP adress could not be completed.

Do i have to set up a static IP address for my wireless to connect via my router?

On the router turn off the wireless security then try to connect using the laptop, do you now get a connection check in the wireless connection what IP address you get it should 192.168.0.x if you get a different IP then post what it is.

If you are not able to connect even with the wireless security off then unistall the netgear drivers and reinstall.

If still not working then trry the wireless adapter on your desktop machine, if it does not connect on that machine as well then my thought would be a duff wireless adapter.

Once you have finished testing then turn back on the wireless security
