Netgear woes

I've bought a Netgear d7000 for a temp solution until Fibre gets installed. But i'm having proper issues with it.

If I plug a new ethernet cable into the router it kinda locks up. Laptops can connect but get no internet. Our wired till stops connecting the the cloud server however our sonos system still woks and so does my mobile.

Any Ideas where i start other than launching the router a someone with a purple/black shirt and getting something else....Although I'm happy to that.

What's this 'new ethernet cable' connected to?

What else is connected when this cable is plugged in?

Does it immediately recover if this cable is removed?

I had similar kind of problems with a Netgear DM200 I tried to use as a temporary backup - no such issues replacing it with a cheapy TP-Link temporarily. Never spent any time trying to get to the bottom of it as it wasn't worth it for a short term solution.

No it needs a reset (pin in hole)
After that it may or may not work.

Its really odd. I bought a different Netgear router for my underground restaurant and after the initial setup its been flawless.

I have to disconnect ALL the cables then reset, then when its fully booted back up Connect the cables back up and hope it works.

Thats what I'm thinking of doing but that'll be a waste of £120 router.

But thats cheaper than card payment failure...

Have you checked there isn't some kind of IP collision going on? i.e. two devices that think they are 192.168.1.1 and everything using that IP as a gateway.

List all connected devices.

All

I see what you did there

EposNow C15 till terminal
Bar printer
Kitchen Printer
Card payment machine.
Hikvision CCTV.

AND

Various wifi stuff phones laptops etc oh and SONOS

I also have a 5 port switch but that has been disconnected for 2 days

HHMM something I just thought of and it has happened at my other site is that every now and then the kitchen printer (via network) seems to change IP address so I have to configure a new port in windows

What is the new device you're adding? Doesn't say..?

Not using powerline are you?

Got another cable you can try?

Router on latest firmware?

The cables themselves are unlikely to be an issue. You can test this by connecting them individually.

When does it fail? When you connect the first device? When you connect the second device? Is it a particular device causing the problem?

When it fails what are the network LEDs doing? Are they going crazy like you'd see if you've created a network loop?

To help we need to know the least number of steps you need to take to reproduce the problem. We can't see what you're doing and you're omitting so much information.

Annoyingly or thankfully its been ok today. Internet has slowed at lost connection once. It only went live last wednesday I wonder if thats part of the problem too.

If it dies again tomorrow I'll report back each step

Thanks Guys
