nether....A zombie/mutant type mmo sort of thing!!

OMG, can't believe I am saying this, but got to agree with DG :D

Pretty poor, and very obviously a rip off / side step from WarZ...

Not for me...

Uninstalled.

So...I haven't actually played WarZ or DayZ. Can you explain to me in what ways they are better than this?

I don't mean that to sound like I disbelieve you - more that I want to be convinced to spend the money on DayZ :)

Just google WarZ, that will be enough for you..

Dayz, where to start.. In it's purest from, without all the base building is the quintessential survival game..

Who to trust, where to go, is that movement, do I crawl, walk run or just hide. Do I chance the opportunity to go into a town to see if there is water or food available so that I don't starve. If I don't go then I will possibly starve or wait until the next opportunity.

The exploration factor is fantastic, which cannot be replicated on any other game that I am aware of, the use of compass, map, the sun, time of day, map or gps is a necessary and adds to the sense of accomplishment. The main Dayz map is Chernarus, which is 22Km x 22Km, although you probably can say usable is around 3/4 of that.

When Dayz first appeared, it was a whole new gaming format for most of us because of the above. Adrenalin would be pumping constantly, mostly because you care for your character, you don't want to die as it might have taken you hours to build up enough to survive for days, weeks even.

If you haven't played dayz before, then I would recommend a vanilla server to get the feel of how we felt last year.. Oh, you will love night time in game :)

We used to have loads of stories from in game within the original Dayz thread which was deleted. But I am sure Reddit has one also, will try and find it for you.

DayZ is the most fun I've ever had in a game.

From first beginnings not knowing what to do trying to survive long enough to find a silenced M9 so you can kill zombies without attracting even more zombies. To end game, sneaking into the airfield or to crashed helicopters to get a DMR or an ACOG M16, not knowing if there is someone on the opposite hill watching you with his night vision.

No matter what you do on DayZ someone can kill you. I've crawled through a forest with a pistol before to kill a sniper outside of a major city camping.

The engine is what makes DayZ such a wonderful game, it's slow, deadly and very frustrating at times. All of these add to the game. You don't know if it's worth staying around to loot a kill, you could end up with extra gear that will help you live longer, you could be shot in the head while searching through his backpack.

It's full of ifs and buts, you don't have long to make decisions, you can't trust anyone. When you first start playing, zombies are a big threat, you can't kill them, they can easily trap and kill you. Later game, zombies are no trouble, you can kill them easily with a silenced weapon, you have good ammo reserves. However, you have more to loose, people will soon find this out and you have to take bigger risks to keep yourself alive and stocked.

ARMA 2 in it's self is well worth the price, it's better than ARMA 3, has more content and is cheaper. Wasteland is another absolutely unbelievable mod for ARMA 2 along with I44 and DayZ i44.

You can get the complete collection in sales for a very small amount of money.

Seems like Rust may be the new DayZ? Might be worth checking out

What?!

I've used a mates 72 hour trial key, and tbh it's a decent game, it's just not what it should be. Enemies are somewhat overpowered, loot is horrific, the world is dull and small etc. It's no WarZ, but it's no DayZ either. At the moment there isn't a game that comes close to the experience we all imagined when DayZ first wet our appetite, and with the standalone going at a patheticly slow pace and unworthy pretenders popping up every other day...

Division is probably our only hope, even though it's not exactly the same, and risks turning into some action shoot em up to appeal to the lowest common denominator... O lord, Rocket what u dun. :(

I've played Rust, not even close to being as tense as DayZ.

See now i wasted cash buying arma2 for dayz and i dont see the hype nor the tense factor....i had zombies run after me, walked into a building and they cldnt catch me, how is that tense? :/ Aside from that i think i encountered like a single other person in my hour or so of playing. Hardly engaging.

Yeah i literally only tried it for an hour odd, prefer my more fast paced games but i do feel the need to speak up when the dayz fanboys outright shoot other games down that could well be better.

Having put 3 hours into Nether so far, I am really enjoying it. I haven't found many bugs, only some invisible walls I have to jump over on some stairs.
The atmosphere really feels like it's post apocalyptic, and it looks amazing.
The map is a little small at the moment but is designed in a way that makes it feel much larger - you could be a few yards away from a player enemy and not even know it.

I am looking forward to playing more of this later on tonight, and I never enjoyed DayZ (mod or standalone) The mod was just too clunky and the buttons made no sense (if I played more I would probably get the hang of it) and the standalone is just much too dark. Both the mod and standalone are extremely empty worlds without much to see.

As above, bought this on early access the other day. It's actually pretty decent.

Had a comedy moment when hungry. Had about 2 hit points left and they were draining as needed food...desperately walking towards a packet of crisps lol. The escort missions are nerve racking too.

For a quick PvP game it is ok tbh, also it looks freaking amazing and is so well optimized it is unreal. I don't know if it will ever get anywhere but if you can get it cheap it is well worth a punt for a bit of PvP fun. Although I hear it can be a bit of a hack fest with people running around with speed hacks. I have not seen any myself though.
