Hi All,

Currently looking to put all my music and photo's on a NAS so that i can access the files from the laptop, phone, and when I'm away from the house.

So I've established that i need either an empty NAS device, or i can get one like the "MyBook" type where they come with a 1tb Disk installed.

However, my issue comes from needing to locate it away from the router without a physical connection beyond the wifi...but i can't seem to find any sub £250 with Wifi, anyone got one they would recommend or solutions?

Also, i take it that when it's picked up by the router (BT Hub) i will be able to add it as a network drive on any pc? How would security work with that?

Thanks :)

Rob

If the cash back offer is still active then take a look at the hp proliant microserver. The where around for under £90 after cash back. Add a wireless card or dongle and freenas. Gives a very powerful nas

No cashback at the moment. It's possible it'll return when the new model becomes widely available, but nobody really knows.

The Synology DS213AIR is £240 til Wed when it goes back to £250 - not sure how that compares with anywhere else on price or if what your ideal budget is. I do highly reccomend if you can afford it paying out for a decent Synology or QNAP tho - I spent a lot of time trying to do it on the cheap and ended up spending a lot of money on stuff that either lacked all the features I wanted or had either poor hardware or software - been completely happy since buying a TS-412.

Got a feeling some of the Synology/QNAP ones can handle an external USB wireless adapter but I'm not 100% sure think I saw something about it in the manual tho.

Thanks for the input guys, managed to pickup a WD Mybook 2TB and going to powerline it :) I take it that as long as the router is secure, then the drive is too?

Have you thought about cloud based storage ?

I have all my Photos on Picasa and all my music on Google Music and I can then access them from pretty much anywhere.

Ive also got a couple of NAS drives but find it much easier to use Picasa and Google music for on the go stuff.

So got the MyBook up and running, for remote access it's via a web interface, is there a way of mapping it remotely to access from another machine like another drive?
