hi all just a quick question regarding nas, ok im getting to the stage where i need more space but need to share it between all my pcs, i need at least 8tb for now maybe more, and could do with 1gb network speed on the nas system, any sugestions would be appreciated. oh not bothered if i get more than one cheaper 2disc version than one large expensive version if need be.

If you want large capacity with decent speed then take a look at Windows Home Server rather than a NAS. Most gigabit NAS solutions don't have enough processing grunt to shift data at a reasonable speed, 20-30MB/s is the norm. WHS on even old hardware will give you twice that at lease.

Building your own server is the best route, I put together my NAS a few years ago for around £300 including a hardware RAID controller and hotswap bays. Now Running 8 drives in RAID5 under Windows Server 2003.
I get a steady 80% utilisation over my gigabit network, 100MB/s reads/Writes. It's stable too, months of uptime.
