Hi,

I'm posting on behalf of my girlfriends dad (who knows nothing about PCs). He seems to think his network is being used by other people who live near him and he doesn't know how to get encryption working. I would do it for him but my girlfriend came from America so he's still there and I'm not going over there for a while :p

I just wondered if anyone could tell me some easy to use software that'll let him scan or check to see if other people are using his network. I don't really know how he can check coz i've never had this problem so any help is appreciated.

I think he was having a problem accesing his router page.. he was saying he doesn't remember setting a password or anything.. so I linked him to a page that tells him the default passwords for his make of router and I told him to try resetting it and putting the passwords in and he couldn't do it... I don't think he's very good at figuring things out when it comes to PCs :P

Any programs he can use>?

Yeah, Internet Explorer/Firefox/Opera/Safari/any other web browser.
Unless the router came with a management utility (and without knowing the model or even the make of the router, it's impossible to say), there isn't a separate app for doing it.

Depending what chipset his card his he could use aircrack to see whats connected to various networks.
What wireless card doews he have?
Emailed you about it :)

airsnare is good to see who is using the wireless side of things, but it would involve trying to trace MAC addresses

first suggestion would be to try and switch off wireless side of things and connect pc>router by ethernet cable, then worry about the likes of mac filtering/ssid broadcast/wpa-psk later
