Just a quick question..

My main DSL router is downstairs. Im connected to this via usb wireless.

I have a separate router in my room(old ADSL one), which i use for lan gaming etc.

Would it be possible to connect both routers via my computer to allow internet access on the wired computers in my room?

I have set up many networks but im having lots of trouble with this bridge!

Both routers are DHCP.

Any advice on getting this to work?

Cheers

Charlie

doesnt need to be that complex

junk your old ADSL modem and buy a normal switch. then a patch lead from router to switch will link the two together. No need to involve your computer at all or worry about DHCP conflicts either. 4 port 10/100 switch is what £10 or something silly ?

This is exactly the setup i have at home. Router downstairs on windowsill attached to master socket. Switch upstairs connecting me, my NAS device and my 2nd computer alltogether. Just run a patch lead between the 2 :)

Sorry, should have mentioned that i cant wire the router to my room, I wouldent use wireless is i had a wire!

I agree its overly complex, but it is something i would quite like to learn!

I was only going to buy a switch if i couldnt get this set up.

Cheers

you're not learning anything usefull by briding using a computer. This just isnt used anywhere as its unreliable

if you want to learn something. Buy a wireless access point. Wire this into the wired ADSL router upstairs. Configure this as a client, and connect it to the wirless router downstairs

wireless APs are what will be used in just about every corporate environment
