Got sick of paying extortionate prices for legnths of network cable, so I've went and bought myself a couple hundred metre roll of Cat5e cable, a bunch of RJ45 plugs and a crimping tool, to do a bit of DIY cabling.

Problem is.....I dont know how to do it. :o What colour wire goes on which end of the network plugs? Which order do they go in?

Anyone got a link to a cable crimping guide? :)

For normal patch cables it doesn't actually matter which order you put the wires in. As long as both connectors are wired exactly the same it'll work.

There are 2 standards for the colours, but unless you care there no need.

Cool. Cheers all. If I do crossovers will they work as "normal" cables as well?

It depends what you'll be connecting, but if you'll be going switch - PC then yes, crossovers will work fine as most switches will have autosensing ports.
