network card working and internets connected but cannot load anything

Hey,

My internet has stopped working on my acer netbook (win8). It connects to the router and says it has local and internet connection however when I open my browser it just times out.

I have updated the drivers and tried an external wireless adaptor with no luck.
I have also checked the firewall is open and ran an anti virus ad adware.

Any ideas?

DNS is a likely culprit.

Trying pinging bbc.co.uk and then 212.58.244.18. Do you get replies from either of them?

pinging the ip number worked, the bbc one did not.

Said "ping request could not find host".

I have tried it on a few routers and different internet connections as well with no luck if that helps.

If the IP worked and address didn't then your DNS isn't working.

What does IPCONFIG tell you?

I can get all the way to change adaptor settings in windows 8, however when i right click the adapter i cannot find internet protocol version 4

Stab in the dark, any old trials of norton or mcafee installed? Even if they aren't loading they can still cause havoc.

When I plugged the cable in, it does say internet access but still will not load anything.

Could be the old winsock problem (xp used to get it all the time, not sure on windows 8).

Go to command prompt and try the following commands,

netsh winsock reset catalog
netsh int ip reset reset.log

Restart after trying them. Fingers crossed.
