Network connection keeps dropping, if i turn the router on and off, it then sorts it.

Hi, for the past 6 months my router seems to be playing up a wee bit, every now and again the internet connection drops, both on my pc-connected via ethernet cable, and also my fathers-sisters laptop 'wireless' all i do is turn the router on and off again and this sorts the problem yet it is really anoying when watching anything on the internet. Or if im out i constantly get phone calls asking what to do to sort the internet.

I have a Belkin router2.4ghz wireless, its rougly 5to6 yrs old :/

Does any one have any tips on how to sort this problem as im going traveling for a year in 2 months and i want a system set up that dosent need to be faffed around with

and just works.

It could be the router is being overloaded.

From experience I have found Belkin routers to be a pile of **** so really I would suggest looking at getting a new router.

Who is your ISP?

What belkin is it?
2.4GHz is just the wireless frequency, all wireless in 2.4GHz

If it hasn't already been done get your provider to check the line. It's "levels" might be a bit low.

If you have an event log on the router check to see what messages its giving when the connection is dropping.

Do any of you use peer to peer eg torrents? The problem could well be half open connections. What is the model number? There may well be a firmware patch for it.

Yep - i had a belkin and this was the problem. Changed to a wrt54gs and the problem went away. Too many connections opening up so just reduce the number in your client(s)

really a new router isn't the answer then it's too many connections so if that was the cause reducing them would sort the problem but in this case i think it's the router belkins are rubbish.

Yea - just reduce the connections instead no real need to change router - just my belkin was pants at everything so used the excuse to get a new one back then.
