Network hard drives

Is it possible to access my network hard drive over the internet?

I currently have it connected to my adsl router and it works fine for home use. Is there any software I'd need to make this happen?

network hard drive, do you mean a NAS box ?

if so it depends on what one. You'd either need a PC to run an FTP or webserver so it could be accessed outside

but some NAS boxes have built in FTP servers, like the synology ones.

Check your documentation, but chances are you'll need a PC to run constantly and run a HTTP/FTP server.

I have a Lacie box (pretty much the cheapest one they make) and it has a built in ftp server which works just fine
