Network help

ive just re built my comp new mobo etc............I have a netgear dg834pn router anyway......the router is working fine and i have the laptop connected to it wireless and the internet connection is fine......when i plug the router into my main comp i can not get an internet connection.....shows the network card as being connected but i am not getting a gateway for my net connection..

ive tried setting up a new connection but that doesnt make any difference anyone got any ideas

can you ping the router from your pc?

You mean you don't get the "...Gateway" icon in My Network Places, or you mean your PC doesn't get assigned a default gateway (and presumably, an IP address) by the router?

both...........the network connection comes up as connected but thats about as far as it goes .....i cant open up the page to connect to the router either using 192.168.0.1

What does ipconfig /all give for the interface, or do you get the "Limited or No Connectivity" message?
Is it any better if you manually assign IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, DNS servers?

i was getting limited or no connectivity but i had a mess about with the settings now i dont even get that......i tried putting a netgear network card but still get the same problem ill have a look to see what i get when ichack the ip config

right done an ipconfig on my main comp and it says the following

host name ..........my name
primary dns suffix...............................nothing blank
mode type.............unknown
ip routing enabled.............no
wins proxy enabled..........no

then it has my ethernet adapter
everything is listed auto configuration etc but subnet mask is blank

It's that bit (i.e. for the network card) that's useful.
