Network/print share issues

OK, its probably best to start with a breakdown of the equipment involved so...
downstairs is one computer connected physically to the router, upstairs is two computers connected wirelessly.
router = WG834GT
wifi cards = WG311T (2 of)
Wifi cards are set up in infrastructure mode

Now, the way the network's supposed to work is that the router (which sits on top of the downstairs computer hence the cable connection) connects to the internet, and all the computers talk to each other through the router.
The first part works, i.e. the internet; the second part doesn't, i.e. the talking bit.

And I mean completely. Even the router refuses to ping anyone other than itself (192.168.0.1) and 127.0.0.1, and its the same with the 3 seperate machines. No file sharing (which died mysteriously about six months ago) and no print sharing (which died about 2 months ago but is more annoying).

EDIT : the seperate machines can ping the router, but the router can't ping back...

At the moment, I'm trying to figure out a way to see if i can manually add the 192.168.0.1-254 ip address range to the firewall (AVG).
oh, and I tried disabling the firewall and pinging myself from the router but that didn't work either >_<

Answers on a postcard (prefereably a forum postcard) please.

So the machines don't respond to echo requests from the router or each other, but do get access to the internet?
Are you running the Windows firewall?
Tried completely uninstalling AVG?

And what about the Windows firewall? Is that on and also blocking ICMP requests?

OK, all the machines had windows firewall running for some bizarre reason (probably came back online when i reinitialised the network and gave it a new name etc)

I've narrowed it down to the firewall for the moment, if i re-run the auto cofiguration thing and check standalone and domain computer then it seems to fix itself, but as usual one of the computers is in 'priority use' (mum >_<) so i can't fix that one (which conveniently has the printer attached).

ah well.

thanks for the help and *** ideas. i'd be stuck a few more months without that.
