How do I go about networking my PS3 and laptop (win 7) together so that my PS3 can access the photos, mp3s and videos on my laptop?

I've got a wireless router for the broadband in my house and both the ps3 and laptop are connected wirelessly to that for the internet connection.

any help would be appreciated. the bloke I bought the ps3 off had the ps3 set up for streaming items between the two but I just cant figure it, either that or I'm too lazy to sit down and figure it out LOL

If the two are on a router, then the ps3 should see the laptop... but not like another pc would...
when your in the PS3 menu, if you goto Video for example, scroll to the top of the list and you should see a windows icon with your account name.
Just need to make sure windows is set to share files and folders ?

sorry I've never really networked before so how would i enable windows to share files and folders? do I just right click the pictures folders etc and share?

You enable the sharing via Windows Media Player and you have to enable "Media Server Connection" from the Network settings menu on the PS3.

So if I need to enable Media Server Connection in WMP so I need to get WMP to store all my pictures and media files in its library?

Yes, I have a windows 7 laptop, so I will check, in a bit, but that was the case with WMP on XP and Vista, I am sure it is the same for W7.

Just tried this and it works just like you thought. It's a bit too user friendly compared to previous WMP 10 implementation, but it works fine, I streamed wmv, divx/xvid, photos from my Laptop to PS3 just now. It doesn't seem to want to share some files on my desktop, but that might be to do with rights or privacy settings.
