I am fed up sharing my computer for the internet. Can anyone suggest a good wired router that will be good for general surfing as well as game playing at the same time for two computers.

Looking at up to £50

Thanks in advance

Avoid the Netgear DG834G (wired/wireless) -too many people having issues with these.

Will be interested to see what recommendations you get here as I need to get another one.

Can I get a wired and wireless capable router/modem in one for under £40 brand new and for it to be up to todays speeds please?

It needs to connect 3 pcs.

For what kind of internet connection?

If you mean an ADSL router that'll also do ADSL2+, doubt it, other than generic Conexant or some special offer.

is adsl2+ for 16mb broadband etc?

What is 54mbps on a router/modem in terms of internet mb speed?

I'd want the router to be able to at least connect at 8mb broaband speeds.

I'd need the router to work in harmony with my xbox 360 either directly connected or via my pc using internet connection sharing.

I can go up to £50 actually.

Yep. I assume cable can do 16Mbit, but 10Mbit is the most you can get atm.

54Mbit = 54Mbit = 54Mbit

ADSL2+ routers should all be backward compatible with current ADSL.

Why bother even considering ICS if you're going to be buying a router? Routers will work independant of what machines are behind them. Shove a patch cable between a LAN port on the router and the network port on the 360. Job done.[/QUOTE]

You must be the minority as I've never had an issue with any of mine(installed five for friends & family) and I use one too, every single one has been rock solid. I have no problems recommending it to anyone who has ADSL.

They can be a bit flaky if you are on Max and your SNR isn't all that good. Taking Max out of the equation (ooh, I wish I could!) then they're pretty solid routers.

Look around the forums (esp Netgear forum) and you will see what I mean. You are obviously one of the lucky ones. I've tried numerous firmware flashes and it seems to improve for a week or so but then goes back to it's habit of dropping connection randomly. Can be fine for a few days and other times it can drop several times in a day. One of these days I shall smash it up with a large hammer & send the bits back to Netgear.
