Hi,

My set up is as follows, VM Modem Upstairs running through a WNDR3700, downstairs is a WNR2000 (at the moment), I've just purchased the TP-Link TP-PA511Kit but not really sure on setting IP addresses and connections. I have the 511's communicating with each other but not sure it's correct as their Powerline Utility doesn't always seem to see one or both 511's.

That's about as far as I've got, all the devices that were connected to the WNDR3700 have IP's allocated:

IP Address: 192.168.1.1
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Starting IP: 192.168.1.2
Ending IP: 192.168.1.210

Allocated IP's run from 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.23, the WNR2000 was originally allocated 192.168.1.18 but I've tried various IP's and none seem to work properly, it is currently allocated 192.168.1.200 (this is why I currently have the Ending IP range set to 192.168.1.210, it would normally be 192.168.1.23). I think the problem is the settings in the WNR2000, really not sure how to set that up.

Anyone good enough to tell me where I'm going wrong or talk me through the proper setup please?

I also have another setup to do at my Brothers, that is slightly different in that there is a ADSL Router\Modem downstairs and an Netgear Router upstairs but that should be easier once I've got mine sorted.

Regards & TIA

Craig

Why on earth are you using two routers?

Ditch the downstairs one and use a switch instead or at least turn off the DHCP and routing etc.

Making some assumptions about what you're trying to achieve, and that the WNR2000 doesn't have a easily selectable AP mode, you probably need to do something like...

  1. Disable the WNR2000's DHCP server.
  2. Assign the WNR2000 with an IP address you can use for management. Use one that isn't in the WNDR3700's DHCP range.
  3. Connect the WNR2000 to the WNDR3700 using a LAN port. Don't plug anything into the WNR2000's WAN port.
