Network speed homeplug compare

Hardly pointless, though. 160mbit is a fair real world throughput to be getting via a modulated system over high (relatively) voltage noisy ring main circuits :)

They were never designed to directly compete with purpose designed screened high speed dedicated data cabling, they are a workaround to help people out where no other connection method is possible.

Got the Devolo 1200 plugs and things have improved:-

getting 90mbit/s which is about 4* better than my existing 200 plugs....

Its more than enough to stream hd and do things but 160£ for that gain seems expensive

Nowhere near 1200mbits lol (even when I had plugs next to each other only got 130mbit)

I do have to wonder with the £160 outlay for these why you didnt run a network cable?

Cable is cheap and the hassle of running it vs the benefit is surely a no brainer.

its going to be really awkward to lay cable in my house

I need 3 lan points from my garden room....
the router is in the hallway and then this would have to somehow be run into the loft space (low with loads of insulation up there) and then chased or whatever to an outside wall (the room is an extension garden room so I presume the wall that the tv is against is the old outside wall) ..... would then need a patch panel to organise the cable which would like crap in my hallway..... I could move all this to the hallway cupboard but then would need to route the bb router into there and also organise power into it....

I really would prefer cable...

I cannot do it so who would you look for to do this kind of work ? how much would you be looking at....
