Hi all,

Im looking a getting a new switch but im a little unsure on what to go for. At the moment i have an 8 port unmanaged switch connected to my Netgear D6400 but i need some more ports now and im also looking to purchase 4 Hikvision DS-2CD2042WD-I ip cameras so will require some POE ports.

I have seen this
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/tp-l...rt-poe-switch-with-2-sfp-slots-nw-147-tp.html

Would i be better off getting another switch like the above and daisy chaining it off my current switch or connecting this switch directly to the router as well?

Or would i be better off just getting one big switch that has some POE ports rather than daisy chaining 2 switches?

Cheers guys

It adds no "hop", it does however add a potential point of failure ("middle" switch dies, takes the link to the new switch with it).

You could buy a small PoE switch (10/100 is more than sufficient for IP cameras) and uplink that directly to your router, and then either keep your current gigabit switch (still uplinked directly to your router), or get a new (with more ports) gigabit switch for your non-camera devices to replace your current switch.

I'd not waste the expense of a large number of port, gigabit PoE switch for a few IP Cameras, there's just no point.
