I'm a bit confused !

Ignore the title, i'll explain whats happening...

When I transfer files from a remote location ( another PC on my network, or from the net ) i'll transfer say 2gig from http:whatever.com and save the data to my X drive, when the transfer is finished i'm 2gig down on both my C and X drive... whats up with that?

I took 5 gig off another comp and straight to X, and the available space on my C drive was shooting down aswell!

I've downloaded about 2 gig of video from a site just now, save location straight to X, and C is loose the space aswell...

I have shadow and system restore switched off on both drives, with no other backup software running.

What do you guys think it is, and has anyone els had this?

Thanks

Isnt there something like "Online/Offline Sync" (a green double headed arrow in task bar) that does something like this -always making sure network copies are the same as local ones.

Not quite the same as what you mentioned (Restore and Shadow) but could have something to do with it

If you're downloading using your web browser then surely the file will be stored in your browser cache before being copied to it's final destination?

Your PC will always be a go-between for any network file transfers. I used to have similar problems with Netware file copies. If you copied a file from one server to another it would be copied to your PC first, then to the destination server. This would use up local disk space and also mean the file copy took twice as long. To get round it we used a utility called Ncopy to perform the transfer without involving your PC. Don't think anything like that exists for Windows, but maybe somebody else knows?

My browser cache is set to a max 400 meg, and evan after the files have transferd and been saved to X, 2 gig would still be missing from C, evan after a reboot
