i have a network with 2 wifi cards and a router. Could i use a cable to the router instead via my onboard LAN? How do I do this? thankyou

assuming your router has wired ports (it should do), you just run an appropriate length of cat 5 patch cable between the router and PC.

You shouldn't need to change any router settings, just cable it to your PC. Assuming your router has DHCP enabled (check manual for guidance on this), your computer should pick up the LAN straight away :)

i plugged the cable in and it says 1394 connection i assume this is the cable thats connected to my router? but im still connecting via my wireless connection?

If the 10/100 / gigabit connection isnt in control panel > netowkr connections then you need to install the network cards drivers - which you should have done when you installed windows.
