Not sure where this should be, here in Networks, Linux and Open Source or Windows and Other Software so mods please feel free to move
Basically I was wanting to set up a network of virtual machines on my Windows 7 host that include a Linux server (not decided on the flavour yet but Ubuntu server is preferred as Ubuntu is all I know Linux wise) and a few Windows clients.
Currently I run several OS' using Virtual Box which is perfect for my needs as the OS' do not need access to each other in any way. What I want to do is test how the Linux and Windows clients interact over a network for certain scenarios like imaging hard disks and network booting to re-image, as well as day to day file sharing etc
Is it possible to have a VM network separate from the physical network I have? The host machine needs to remain on the network. I have several PCs, IP cams and NAS devices set to static IPs (rather not interrupt these) so I assume I need a separate subnet? How would I achieve that? Virtual router?
