Not sure if this should be here or in the console forums, but i think its closer to do with the networking side of things.

Ive been trying to connect my Wii to my wireless router (wrt54gl running tomato) but each time the Wii trys a test it always fails. If i check the device list on tomato and then run a test on the Wii, the mac of the wii shows up but has no IP listed (it cant give the wii a IP as my wireless router isnt my DHCP server, so i set the Wii IP manualy).

My router has been set to only allow the mac address of my laptop and the wii for wireless connections, so thats not whats stopping it from connecting. Ive typed my WPA2 key into the Wii twice to make sure it is correct (i think its 30-40 characters long, letters (upper and lowercase)/numbers, so its quite a pain to retype).

The only 2 settings im unsure about is the default gateway and the DNS settings. The default gateway has been set as the wireless router at one point, and my netgear router (which is connected to the cable modem) at another attempt and neither of them settings solved the problem, but im unsure which is the correct one to be the gateway. As for the DNS settings, my wireless router lists 0.0.0.0 as both primary and secondary DNS, so instead of trying that on my Wii, i copied the 2 IPs from my netgear router and used those DNS servers (they are the ones my ISP let me use by default).

I can't help with the Linksys side, but when I set up the kids' Wii I had similar troubles at first. In my case I'd set up the router's wifi (months previously) to be "Auto108mbps" or "g", but the Wii only connects at "b" over wifi. It's well worth double checking your router settings aren't denying (or at least interfering with) "b" wifi access :)

Could be something to do with using WPA2. I know the Wii is supposed to support WPA, but I think there must be issues with specific routers. I'm using a Buffallo WHR-G54S running Tomato and can't get the Wii to connect when it's using WPA, only WEP.

We use WPA and the Wii connects fine - but being honest I didn't notice the OP had said WPA2... that could be an issue as much as the "b" spec wifi access. Looks like you've got a couple of hours fun ahead in troubleshooting this Dist lol

Just found this:

Nintendo Website said:
The Wii is compatible with WEP, WPA and WPA2 encryption methods if you wish to enable wireless security on your router.

Also on the compatible routers page it says nothing about any issues with your router, so I guess in theory it should be fine. Then again it should be fine connecting via WPA on my router but it isn't :p.

Edit: Also for the Gateway / DNS Settings: For default gateway, if you've got any computers connected through the wireless, have a look at what they're using for default gateway (with ipconfig) and use the same (Not that it will fix this as you've already said you tried both routers IPs). DNS wise what you've done sounds fine.

Another afterthought: I've never tried setting a Wii up going through 2 routers before (From your post it sounds like that's what you have anyway), can you try it just with the Linksys connected to your modem and see if that works?

I had a nightmare connecting mine also. It is not compatible with some routers it seems. Mine is now on 54G Auto wpa-psk & is rock solid. It simply would not work on an older hub that was also 54G no matter what I tried.

I just checked my routers B/G settings and its set to mixed, so it can use either. Next time i get a chance to test it again i will try disable the mac filter compleatly to see if that works, and also try switch to WPA or WEP instead of WPA2, just to see if it makes any difference (although tbh i would rather not do this, as there is several other WLANs in the area, so i would rather have the best security available).

At the moment, i have a netgear rp614v3 connected to my cable modem, and a switch, 2 pcs and the wireless router and then connected to that switch, so the wrt54gl is acting as nothing more then an access point realy. Attaching it directly to the cable modem isnt realy viable at the moment, so i just hope that isnt the problem.

After checking ipconfig /all on my wireless laptop, it seems that the neatgear router is the default gateway, not my wireless router, and that the DNS server ips on my netgear router are the correct ones to be used (it works for my laptop after all).

Thanks for the help everyone, ill try a few more things later to see if i can get the Wiis wifi working and report back my progress.

try changing the channel your wireless signal is on, this was a problem on my router, could see the network but not connect until i changed channels.

Well i managed to get the connection working, all it took in the end was changing the wireless channel from 5 to 11. Only problem now is that whenever i tried to join a MoH multiplayer game, it just says disconnected from network right after i join the game, and so i cant use it. And without being able to play MoH online, there isnt much point to me having online connectivity on my Wii at the moment.

i have my wii connected to my network using ethernet cable and a usb to ethernet dongle - works a treat

would using a usb>ethernet dongle and homeplugs be an alternative for you?
