Afternoon - got virgin installed as part of a house move. All is working well. However, I need to be able to plug Ethernet into a bedroom upstairs for a few devices 2/3).

The house I've moved into is very old, some homeplugs are likely not to work, I also have a real lack of plug socks (one in each room). Can I hook up a switch using wifi so,show? If so, how and what products??

Thanks!

I'd still give homeplugs a go, you can get pass through ones so it doesn't take up a socket.

In answer to your question though, yes you can bridge the connection using WiFi, just read through the descriptions to make sure it supports it. I've got a TP-Link TL-WA901ND that does.

For Homeplugs it really depends on the wiring. For Wi-Fi there are all sorts of factors but if it's an old house then you may have thick, stone internal walls which can play havoc with Wireless.

Can you not just run a cable? Either round the outside of the house or up the stairs?

Afraid not, stairs are tight enough as it is. And outside isn't an option. I'll give the homeplugs a go and if issues I'll be back for more ideas! ;)

Thanks

Ive set up a hybrid type arrangement, where I have:

router -> Homeplug -> Homeplug upstairs ->WAP

Works quite well for me and if I need to add the garage, I will just need another homeplug and WAP.

I got a great deal on HUKD on a pair of Zyxel homeplugs and they are great.
