Hi,

I've been given 2 older desktop pcs and was contemplating opening them up and if possible combining the best parts from each into 1.

What I want to know is how can I determine compatability between the parts etc.

Is there an idiots guide to this sort of thing?

Do you know the specs of the two systems do they both operate?

Your first job is to find out what all the parts are. Post the two lists on here and we'll help you with the next step.

If they both load into windows, install something like speccy to see what the hardware is and post screenshots.

Hi guys,

No power to one so possible a faulty psu. The 2nd one boots but has no hdmi so I'm going to get hold of a vga cable and check it out.

Once you've got the speccy off that one, move the PSU over and try the other.
