Never mind

I was looking to upgrade my 1080ti , but just a bit lost with all the different cards out there and sadly most of the threads in this section seem to be rather toxic.

I have a 5600X and a good 1000w PSU.

I struggle with frame rates on Red Dead 2 and MW2 on my 34 inch ultrawide @1440p.

I was looking a a 4070ti, as this seems to give me a 100% improvement over my 1080ti, but was just looking for some help.

Or a 4080 if you can find one at a better price. It’ll last longer than the other two suggestions, IMO.

Thanks guys, I don't mind spending more. I just do not want to get more than I need. My 1080ti has lasted really well and has been a great card.

Right now everyones knickers are in a twist because instead of the new generation cards "replacing the old" with similar prices but a jump in performance, the GFx card companies have decided to simply stack the new range above the existing and align the price of the new cards accordingly. Whilst its not what happened previously, in general terms, right now the more you pay the faster card you get. If you are in the market right now for a Gfx card you have no choice but to plump for the card that gives the desired perfomance and pay the asking price. I think everyone agrees the new gen cards are great cards, just no one likes the new pricing strategy. For you, keeping cards for a good stint, the "extra" cost will amortise out over the time of ownership. All cards mentioned above will do what you want right now, but given that you keep cards a while, I think I would opt for something with more vram and higher mem bandwidth than the 4070ti as you may well upgrade that 1440p display before your card in the future. Don't forget to flog the 1080 on the MM for a little subsidy towards your new card.

From the 2 games you mentioned, both are AMD leaning for performance (MW2 a lot more so) -

and for RD2

Maybe look at the previous generation cards though in regards to value for money options?

90% of my gaming is on Call of Duty and Warzone and I run the same resolution - I've currently got a 3080 which is no slouch but I'm looking to max out the monitors 175hz refresh rate. I've decided to go for a 7900XTX as it's an AMD leaning game and ray tracing performance doesnt really mean anything to me. I would recommend thinking about how much game time you spend on those games and as its previously been mentioned - they are both AMD leaning titles (MW2 so much so that the 7900xtx is faster than the 4090 in it)

Hi Mike, if you did want to stretch things out so that you aren't looking for another few generations then a 7900xtx sapphire nitro+ could/would be an option.

It's all a matter of your budget really. 4090 is the fastest in most games but also the most expensive. Possibly will last the most time as well as currently CPU is a bottleneck for 175hz+ and not GPU in 1440p UW. For your CPU at the moment something like 7900xtx or 4080 seems the most optimal - 4090 would be likely under utilised in many games.

Good point re the CPU bottlenecking the 4090. It would probably be a slight bottleneck on the XTX as well but I've not seen numbers for the 5600x at 3440*1440 on MW2 with a strong card.

Eventually a 5800x3d would wring the last bit of performance out of @Mike 702 's platform for gaming and arguably a 5800x3d + a 7900xtx would see better gains than a 4090 alone anyway (and cost less). Especially with SAM enabled in MW2

The question is how much cash do you have to throw at a GPU.

There is a 6900xt for sale in the Members Market for £620. Would be a great upgrade and several hundred £ cheaper than buying a 4070ti/7900xtx/4080.
