Hey all,

I've been having random freezing in Windows 7 and after a bit of Googling, I've come to the conclusion the RAM may be faulty.

I have 16GB of matched Gskill RipJaws 1600MHz, so 4 sticks in 4 slots. Running Memtest from bootable CD I get 1 red line, similar to this..

*THIS IS NOT MINE, BUT JUST AN ILLUSTRATION OF WHAT I SEE*

This happens almost immediately, but I've left it running today whilst I'm at work to see if any more errors surface.

Does this mean one of the sticks is faulty? :(

Thanks

It means you have a memory related fault.

Try running the system with one stick at a time and in different slots and retest using Memtest86+

If the the same module fails in both slots, then you have found a faulty memory module. Repeat for all modules.

If the module works in one slot but ok in the next and some for second module, it could be a faulty memory controller.

Check also your memory is set to run at the correct settings in the BIOS, Frequency, voltages, timings etc. Check the manufacturers website for recommended settings.

Thanks for the info Huddy!

Just followed the advice, tested 1 stick at a time.. 1 has failed in two different slots while the others consistently pass.

I guess this means RMA to Gskill? Will they want the single stick, or the pair? I know it seems obvious, but I'm guessing the sticks aren't tied to each other in that way and don't want to send more than I need to.

RMA submitted, just waiting to hear back.

Thanks for all your help! Praying for a fast turnaround :)
