Never seen my father in such a state

My dad undertook a bypass heart surgery earlier today and just been to see him not so long ago.

Words cannot describe how down I feel, his blood pressure kept dropping and his heart beat was hitting 140 at times.

We were asked to leave the room for a minute whilst they repositioned him and checked other areas, I could hear my dad screaming from such a distance and I've never heard him do that in my life.

I feel truely horrified and I feel lost for words. Not sure how I'll sleep tonight, will be skipping most of uni to see him tomorrow.

Gah, not really sure why I posted. He will pull through! I just know he will.

That sounds absolutely terrible. Why was he screaming?! :(

Don't worry though, he's in the most capable hands he can be in... :)
 
Its a major surgery and it takes a lot out of the patient. My dad's friend had bypass last month. It was shocking when I first saw him. But I can tell you a few weeks on and he has started to recover and is slowly regaining strength. You need to stay positive and just be there and soon things will start to get better.
 
Sorry to hear that.

Try to be strong for your Mum and make sure you all look after each other.

At times like this I know eating and drinking and sleeping goes out the window, but you need to keep your strength up.

Your Dad needs to see his family around him being strong. It will help him to recover faster.

No point in denying it, it will be a long up-hill road ahead, but he will be ok.

It's just a matter of time before he'll be out of hospital.

It's always horrible to see a loved one in pain. Try to get a good night rest tonight and go see him tomorrow he should be feeling much better

My old man has had a quadruple bypass and was in hospital for about a week afterwards. It was more than a shock to see the daft bugger appear at work after said week when I was expecting him to be in the hospital for a month :eek:
I'll never forget how frail he looked (he'd lost weight, looked half his former self) and physically seeing him in pain scared the absolute bejesus out of me, really upset me, as I had never in my life seen him flinch at anything. I think I know how you feel and I offer you all my best wishes :) It wont be five minutes before he is being cheeky to nurses and trying to smuggle in a curry :D
 
Having witnessed my own father being cared for in ITU, all I can really say in terms of encouragement is that the level of treatment and care they give is astonishing. To use the old cliche, he really is in the best possible place.

Sorry to hear about your father Dark, my thoughts are with him. My dad had a heart by-pass done a few yrs ago and i can imagine the pain he is in as my dad went through a lot of pain himself but thankfully he made a full recovery.

As i said my thoughts are with him and your family :).

Having gone through this myself, I can only tell you that while in the short term it seems so incredibly horrific, you will be amazed how quickly your dad is back on his feet, most likely within a week.

It will be hard, but he will be ok. You are through the worst of it.
