hello all

i have been looking at widescreens and the forum for a while so its time for me to ask some questions, stupid ones too :)

i,m looking for a widescreen 20 or 21
good for gaming and office work

something on the lines of:

solid build

- not bothered about speakers or usb
- 8ms or less
- 800:1 or greater (greater is better for me as i,m nearly blind so for web developing really)
- widescreen
- 1:1 pixel mapping
- just a moitor thats near perfect

i was thinking about the nex but the gloss finish and reflection is scaring me
and also the Viewsonic VP2030B is this a widescreen or not?

- leave the belinea and philips out

so please badass and other please help.

thanks all for your time

I too am looking for pretty much the same spec monitor. Would like to see peoples suggestions on this thread.

Have been looking at
- Belinea 102035W
- NEC MultiSync® LCD20WGX2
- Viewsonic VX2025

the nice its got a big head though but nice two things though
- glossy finish
- lower contrast ratio 700:1

the viewsonic mixed feedback
-it doesnt have 1:1 mapping

baddass you around please give us your feedback

thanks

There is a good review here of that monitor.

Review here

And I have heard a lot of favourable reviews on this monitor.

Horses for courses and all that though.

ya i have seen most of these reviews still no mention od pixel mapping and is it 700 or 800 , according to nec its 700 to ocuk its 800 which one is it anyone

I would probably be more inclined to take the NEC version, also everywhere else I have looked it is 700:1 (1600:1 with Advanced DV Mode). Only OCUK have i seen it at 800:1, i'm sure they will respond soon to confirm whether it is a mistake or not.

i think its a type but will know soon i just hope badass answers, also have you seen anywhere that it mentions is 1:1 pixel mapping capable

I would assume that he would have put US version only then as he has in *** HDCP box. Because the us ver5sions are HDCP enabled, UK versions are not. I think i have seen Badass post about this on another thread as well, but we wait for him to confirm.

hi

i,m trying to look for that thread i'll post it when i find it but also wait for badass, would you post it if you find that thread as well pls.

have u seen this monitor by the way, have u seen the gloss finish

Not sure if I can post this but it also says it is supported and is also not a bad review. Haven't read anything bad tbh.

No haven't seen the actually screen. So not sure how it looks, but most comments on it have been favourable.

NEC for the win, it makes the Dell look positively shoddy and the gloss screeen isno progbmen, trust me (i'n next to a window). :)

hi ATI :) To help clear up a few of the questions:

NEC do indeed list it as 700:1 contrast ratio, with 1600:1 rating thanks to DFC. I'll ask OcUK to change the spec since it is clearly a mistake.

hey dude thanks for finding that, but i think thats only for the us version, could anyone confirm

TheLCD20WGX2 supports 1:1 pixel mapping no matter which version you have. It is just HDCP support which is limited to the US version

As far as which screen to go for the NEC is a great choice if you want a gaming screen. It's arguably one of the fastest panels in the market and also offers some great all round performance. Colour reproduction and vibrancy are very good, black depth is good (Advanced DVM / DFC really makes a difference here) and viewing angles are wide. If you're looking for a good gaming / office screen this would be a good choice. It might be worth trying to see a glossy finish screen in a shop somewhere perhaps if you're worried about it, but for a lot of people it isn't really a problem. That aspect is down to personal taste though. Acer and Sony's glossy finish screens are readily available in the highstreet so you could always have a look at those to get an idea of what to expect.

The only other models you've not really mentioned is the Viewsonic VX2025WM which offers some god all round performance. If you are discarding the Belinea, Philips and Dell models, this might be also worth looking at as it's about £100 cheaper, but performance wise i think the NEC would be more suited to your needs.
