Yeah what DO capodecina and caporegime mean ? Iv no idea with all this mafia stuff, whats the ranks and whats the meaning behind it all ? im interested to know.

Capodecina

"Secret societies in the hills were needed to resist foreign rulers.
These societies were formed not only to try and defeat the French
rulers but also to protect and feed the Italian families in the
villages of Palermo and surrounding areas. Since most of the villagers
were related, each village picked a member to head their family.
These heads of families were called (capodecina or capos for short).
The capodecina would pick men from the village to take with him to the
hills. Before the men left for the hills they would have to pledge
their loyalty, support and Omertá .

Caporegime

A caporegime (sometimes shortened to capo) is a term used in the Mafia for a high ranking member of a crime family who heads a crew (or group) of soldiers and has major social status and influence in the organization. Caporegime is an Italian word, which was originally used to signify the head of a family in Sicily, but has now come to mean a ranking member, similar to Captain. In general, the term indicates the head of a branch of an organized crime syndicate who commands a crew of soldiers and reports directly to a boss or an underboss

That looks like Freddie Mercury far too much to be taken seriously as a gangster avatar imo, so i'll be using the 5k one :p

What do they mean?

Capodecina is more of a traditional Old Country name for a capo.

Caporegime is more what the Italian American Mafia would use and a capo in both senses would head a crew of soldiers. In the Mafia, all money flows upstream so the soldiers would rob, steal, extort etc and a cut would go to the capo which in turn would go further up to the Underboss and Boss.
