New 5080 not powering on

Hi guys, so the past couple of days I upgraded my system to

650w > 1200 w
16GB > 32 GB
500GB SSD > 2TB NVME
1600 > 5700x3d

At this point everything was working fine on my computer and during this process I updated my BIOS, APU drivers and chipset drivers etc. I had a lot of help from here as it went wrong originally for me.

I was quite happy it had all worked out and I thought the final and easiest step would be swapping out my 1060 for the 5080. Unfortunately it hasn't powered on at all from what I can tell. The model I have is the Gigabyte Gaming OC and I'm not sure if the fans should spin a bit or there be any lights on at all when I click the power button but as far as I can tell there is nothing at all.

I've had to leave my PC until tomorrow but I was hoping to get some ideas of what I could do to resolve this. Or is it likely a case of a faulty GPU.

I used the new +12VHPower cable and I assume both ends work the same.

Step 1 - Remove GPU and put it back in.
Step 2 - Instead of using the new +12VHPWR port on my PSU I will try using the the adapter supplied with the GPU
Step 3 - I only tried one HDMI and one Displayport. I will try all the ports

Apart from that I can't think of what else I can try. Also if anyone has this model could they let me know if any lights appear as soon as you click the power switch? Is there anyway of telling its receiving power.

Thanks

What exactly happens when you push the power button? Is there no life from the computer AT ALL, or is it just a black screen with all fans running?

Everything else seems fine. Mobo lights up, Case fans are on, CPU cooler fans working...just nothing from the GPU and on the screen it says no signal

My guess would be that the power plug isn't fully inserted on one, or both ends. You could try using the adapter instead.

Try each port too, as you have already mentioned.

You're two PCI-E generations ahead with this card, but I'm not aware of any compatibility issues. You could set the BIOS to PCI-E Gen 3 on the primary slot before you try it.

What is the status of secure boot and CSM in the BIOS?

No fans coming on the GPU?

Friend of mine with a widescreen display had a similar problem with a 5080, it wouldn’t display an image on first booting up. Eventually plugged it in to another hdmi screen and it was OK.

That's possible too, and then once you've installed the drivers go back to the original monitor.

I will try setting the BIOS to PCI-E Gen 3. Not sure what secure boot and CSM mean I will look into that tomorrow

No the fans don't move at all. I think I have another monitor laying around so I'll give that a go also

I saw this on reddit

The problem is probably with the sense pins on the Corsair cable. The sense pins are the two tiny gauge wires on the connector. If they don't make full contact with the sense pins on the GPU, the GPU will not start.

First thing to do is make sure the sense pins are fully seated into the connector. Any little bit of play could cause them not to work properly. The second thing is to make sure that when you use the Corsair cable, it is FULLY seated. The 5080 uses the new H++ connector with shorter sense pins, so the tolerance for having any gap between the two connectors is next to zero."

Hey Jonny, after seeing your post, I took the connector out once more and shoved it in again with great force and only after the second time, it finally worked - however it’s odd that I had already tried this multiple times.

I get now what you’re saying that it needs to be air tight, but it seems even with a mighty hard force it still had enough play to not power the card. Hopefully we can raise awareness to this issue, even with my 10th+ build this stumped me for hours.

Thanks so much!"

I'm hoping its a simple fix like this...
