Basically i turned my pc on and when it got to put my password to login, it took about 5-10 seconds to register me typing it in, which gave a it a blue screen. After that all seemed normal but 10 seconds later i got purple/pink artifacts about halfway at the bottom of my screen. The computer froze for about 5 seconds then the screen flickered then i got a message saying something like amd display drivers has just recovered. Finally the screen just freezed so i just restarted.
Ive had the card since friday, i formatted my pc before i installed my new card. My current temps are 43c idle and i have the 10.3 drivers installed.

Edit: Everything seems fine now, shall i just put it down to a random one off encounter and not worry about unless it happens again?

Had same similar problem to you, the problems are normally caused by having nvidia drivers installed before you put in the ati. Even if you unistalled the nvidia ones problems always occur like the ones you mentioned above. If you formatted you should be fine but if anything happens again its most likely the card. Although IMO you will be fine now

Run lots of benches/stress testers e.g. Vantage and unigine heaven etc

All seemed well until i started up today. Same problem as before but i managed to get a BSOD, i couldnt read the error as it was too quick. Then i got the pink artifacts and slow responses and now and again the pc would freeze. This all happend just on the startup. Everything seems fine now once i start using my pc, i just dont get it.
GPU temps 38c and still using the 10.3 drivers. Once i get past that problem my graphics card is awesome i play all my games at max settings and getting the most out of my card, its just this annoying problem that seems to happens when i start my pc.

Done it again, ive just come back from work and turned the pc on and its the sam problem. Thing is after 10 mins everything seems ok, i could play a game for hours now with no problems.

Any artifacts i'd RTM. :D

Take a picture tho mate to ensure your have proof of the anomalys.

Does it do it in the bios..?

Edit: I do have a problem with artifacting with my setup, my 5970 and 5870. I get artifacts on boot, ALWAYS.

If i run a real 3d application then immediatly quit, they disapear. SO when i boot i have to run heaven, then quit, and my desktop is all good - to me that's a driver problem, not a faulty unit, so im kinda contridicting myself saying any artifacts i'd return.

Have you tried different drivers?. Also, have you seen any artifacs in bios / safe mode..?

It may just be drivers.. They are still immature with the 5970

Well i phoned the up and they told me to run memtest so doing that now.
I dont get artifacting on the bios only when i start my pc and its on the login screen and on the desktop. All this happens for about 10 mins, then everythings fine.
Anyway im using 10.3 drivers, is it worth trying 10.2?

Try 10.4s. The 10.3s were very good though. Still, doesnt sound like a driver issue, but at least rule it out.

That kinda happens to me. It's a driver problem and i fix it by quickly running heaven when my pc starts, then exiting str8 away, then it's all gone..

You'll be surprised. I get artifacts on boot which is fixed by running a 3d application and exiting it.

Methinks it's to do with the clockspeeds of the cards on boot. May be wrong though.

I'm convinced mine isn't faulty and i get artifacts.

Just checked my install programs, and i noticed for some reason i had nvidia physx driver installed, so ive unistalled it.....could that be the problem.

Apart from the fact that I HATE OpenAL, it has only ever given me sound related issues. Are you on a fresh system install then?

I just unistalled OpenAL and had to restart my pc and everything just shot straight up. Do i even need OpenAL as i use a USB headset and they use there own drivers.
