New Abit IP35 Pro with lots of problems

Hi all, I hope you can help me with these problems.

I have a new Abit IP35 Pro for my new computer, and it's been nothing but trouble so far.

So far, it hasn't detected the USB keyboard. It can't access the floppy drive, and it hangs during post if I have all 4 sticks of RAM installed.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what the problem could be? I'm out of ideas over here.


Alternatively, does anyone know of an alternative board I can use? (This computer must be up and running by Friday :( )
 
Have you got a ps/2 keyboard you can try, because I think you have to enable a usb keyboard once in the bios.

Try using just one stick of ram in slot 1 and make sure you clear the cmos. If that doesnt work try a different stick of ram in slot 4. Ensure you drain all power and clear the cmos each time.

Then once in the bios you may need to change the voltage of your ram and enable the use of usb keyboard. Then you can try installing the other ram.

What ram are you using by the way?

I've been using a (very) old ps2 keyboard, but I'll look in the BIOS for a USB keyboard option.

The computer specs I have are:

Corsair HX 620W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU
2x Western Digital Caviar SE16 500GB 5000AAKS SATA-II 16MB Cache
2x Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 PC2-6400C4 800MHz Dual Channel Kit
OcUK GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express)
Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600
Abit IP35 Pro (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard

In regards to RAM, it seems that the only thing causing it to hang are when I use all 4 RAM sticks. I've checked that all of my sticks are working and all of the slots are working by swapping the RAM around, so it just seems like it's using 4 that's the problem. I've also tried upping the voltage to 2.0 on the RAM after reading the Abit websites tech FAQs, but that didn't help at all.

try 2.2, states that on package for your ram. also just noticed your running a high end card, thers an extra power slot next to the pc-i slot, have u tryed that, gives better stabilty :D
 
Yeah I've plugged in the extra 4pin power slot next to the PCIe connector.

I'll try 2.2 on the RAM and see how that goes.

Does anyone have any ideas about the Floppy though? I need to put on the RAID drivers when installing windows, so I can install it on a RAID partition. :(

During POST the Floppys LED turns on, and it doesn't turn off, and the system can not read from any disks in the drive. (The Make Raid Driver utility you get when you boot the system from the motherboards CD-ROM states that there is a time out error on the drive)
 
Does any post error code come up on the little display? If so what number is it?

Also I think for the ballistix you should try 2.1 or 2.2 as they are rated at 2.2 Hopefully that should make them stable enough for 4gb.
 
Alright, just tried upping the voltage to 2.2, and the system hung again.

Dna14: The code that comes up is 0d. It comes up right after code 05.
 
code 5 from manual

1. Blank out screen
2. Clear CMOS error flag

dont see a code 0d in manual, theres a 0a thou, that may be your prob with keyboard. states.

1. Disable PS/2 mouse interface (optional)
2. Auto detect ports for keyboard & mouse followed by a port & interface swap (optional)
3. Reset keyboard for Winbond 977 series Super I/O chips

ps! just on offchance with gpu again, u have that powered from psu as well ?

for your keyboard setting in bios, Integrated Peripherals > OnChip PCI Device > USB Device Setting

Does it work with 2gb installed? If not what error code do you get?

I had a look for 0d but there is no mention of it?!

Once you have got it to boot in the bios change the timings manually to what they are supposed to be and try 2.2v and make sure you save it.

Then try again with 2.1v if that doesnt work, just keep trying it and see if you have any luck.

Rab: it's definitely a code 0d and not an 0a.

At this point I'm thinking about just junking this board and getting a new one. While I can live with using 3 sticks of RAM, I need the floppy to work so that I can install Windows on a RAID 1 partition. (According to the manual, I need to load the RAID drivers in from a floppy disk before I can install windows...)
 
Morg: the floppy cable only goes in one way round. (Parts of the plug stick out so that you can't put it in the other way around. And the floppy cable has tags on the ends so you know which plug goes to which device)

have you memtest the ram ? weird that code 0d, nothing at all in the manual about it. tbh would keep with it, these boards are just great. hope you get it sorted :)

Rab: nope, but I'll be calling the Abit tech support line tomorrow when it opens (about 10am). If they can't help me to fix the problems I'm having with the board, I'll have no choice but to buy a different one. (I have to get this new computer working by Friday :|)
 
Strange and annoying.

I haven't tried the the Memtest yet, but I'll see about giving it ago tomorrow. (It's late here, and I don't want to wake people up by messing around with the new computer :P ) I don't see how there would be problems with the memory though, as they all work as long as I don't have 4 in the slots.

I'll also try out slipstreaming the driver into the XP disc. (Though it's kind of worrying that the floppy drive isn't working anyways...)

Mind you, it looks like I'm not the only person to run into this 0d error code. if you look on google for "ip35 pro 0d" you'll find several references to it. (Though I haven't seen any solutions to it posted...)

Take another look at the cable, sometimes there is one cutout in the board and another in the metal casing, so dont go by that. The correct way is to look for an indication of pin 1. That's can indicated by a 1, V , or a small triangle/dot and finally a red conductor on the cable. If the floppy light is staying on, its in the wrong way round or a pin is bent/cable damaged.

The cable was in the wrong way round on the floppy drive. It's now working :D
Now to install Windows and go to bed!

(I'll work do RAM stuff tomorrow)

You'll want to flash the bios to ver 11, it has improved memory compatibility. And other various fixes that are a must.

Use the command line below (not the bat with the bios) and a usb flashstick or your floppy. Don't use the windows bios utility!!!!
